The General Contractors’ Section, Toronto (“GCS”) was pleased to participate in this year’s “Future Building” Exhibition from April 14th through 16th.  Over 9,000 students from grades 7 through 12 visited the GCS booth to learn about professional careers in construction, pose for a photo with a male or female career cut-out (pictured) and receive a branded GCS drawstring bag if they engaged our booth attendees in some Q&A or located at least 8 words in the word search we distributed.

The GCS partnered with several “Presenting Sponsors”, including representatives from various member companies (Bondfield, PCL, EllisDon) in addition to our Association Sponsors, such as the Ontario Architects Association, Association of Registered Interior Designers and Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. Attached to this E-Bulletin are several photos of the event and our booth in particular. Thanks to the hard work of our Education Consultant, Erin Cimino, the event went off without a hitch and our booth, although lacking in power tools, proved to be quite popular amongst the students.

The event provided us with our first real opportunity to engage middle and high school students and discuss with them the possibility of a professional career within the context of a construction-specific exhibition. Surrounded by the various construction trade exhibits, the students were able to get a first-hand view of the sights and sounds of a construction environment, which helped us to frame our presentation to the thousands of students that attended the event.

My sincere thanks to all of our volunteers and contributors.
