The pedestrian tunnel connecting The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto General Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital is a vital link beneath Gerrard Street and University Avenue. In use since the 1970s, this important underground corridor has long been well used. Our team was brought in to enhance and modernize the space, ensuring it remains safe, efficient, and welcoming for everyone who uses it.
We repaired structural and water damage, installed new mechanical and electrical systems, and gave the entire tunnel a brighter, more comfortable feel with upgraded lighting, sprinklers, epoxy flooring, and fresh finishes. The result is a revitalized corridor designed for durability and comfort.
Because this tunnel is a lifeline between three of Toronto’s busiest hospitals, our work had to be carefully coordinated. We worked hand-in-hand with hospital staff, phasing construction, isolating work areas, and providing advance notice to minimize disruption. Now, hospital staff, patients, and visitors can move through a tunnel that’s not only functional, but also refreshed and welcoming.
