The MRI & Tower addition at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) creates a better and faster healthcare experience for the community. The 6-storey concrete building houses two complete MRI suites/rooms and a new mechanical penthouse at roof level within the existing healthcare facilities. The space was designed to hold PRHC’s newest addition, a second MRI machine, allowing for up to 5000 additional MRI procedures each year and decreasing wait times.
To ensure minimal disruption to hospital operations, Dineen’s project team implemented strategic measures. The construction zone was isolated from the active healthcare facility by creating a temporary tunnel from the parking lot to the construction site (Courtyard #5), ensuring that all deliveries and personnel were kept separate from patient areas. Additionally, a precise plan was developed to place the MRI machine using a crane, preventing a planned two-week shutdown of a portion of the hospital and saving valuable time. By creating two openings, the team used a crane located at the parking lot to hoist and deliver the MRI machine into the 3rd level of the new tower building.
