In response to the urgent need for expanded testing capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dineen Construction led the development of a two-story portable COVID-19 lab at Sunnybrook General Hospital. The Shared Hospital Laboratory (SHL), Ontario’s largest hospital microbiology lab, features state-of-the-art automation that enhances efficiency and turnaround times. It has the capacity to process up to 10,000 COVID-19 samples per day.
Located adjacent to an active hospital, the project required effective planning and coordination to minimize disruption and ensure seamless integration with ongoing hospital operations. Dineen established comprehensive procedures to ensure smooth collaboration, on-site organization, and clear lines of authority.
The project encompassed a full range of construction services, from site preparation and structural work to the integration of specialized mechanical and electrical systems. Dineen ensured that all elements of the build met the highest standards of quality, safety, and functionality—delivering a fully operational, turnkey facility.
