Dineen delivered Design-Build, development and construction services to create the world’s first Organ Regeneration Lab at the Toronto General Hospital. The 4,000 sqft. space brings the next generation of care for transplant patients at UHN. In the past, if organs were in any sort of trauma they couldn’t be transplanted. The organ regeneration lab is using technology call perfusion to effectively keep the organs alive for an extended period in a specialized environment like an incubator, which gives the team time to work on the organs and get them ready for transplant.
Dineen led the full transformation of the space, reimagining and rebuilding of two new procedure rooms & one islet equipment room to perform transplant organ regeneration activity. The renovation also included the creation of an Anesthesia and Perfusion Room, a specialized Rotem Lab, and enhancements to surrounding spaces—all tailored to support this world-first medical advancement.
The project was completed as 20 operating rooms remained active. The team worked in a sterile environment with the main focus being the patients and staff safety.
