The Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre is a four-storey, long-term care facility designed to provide a warm, supportive, and community-focused environment for its residents. The building features 38 wards, 32 semi-private rooms, and 12 private rooms, with a fourth-floor shell constructed for future expansion of 60 additional beds—bringing the capacity to 180 beds.
Each residential floor offers inviting communal spaces, including two lounges, an activity room, a spacious dining room, and six tub and shower rooms. The main floor enhances the quality of daily life with a chapel, gift shop, library, doctor’s office, salon, administrative offices, and a bake and crafts room. At the heart of the centre is the striking “Winter Garden,” a bright, airy gathering space complete with a grand staircase, fish pond, lush greenery, and comfortable lounge seating.
The design also incorporates a high-vaulted enclosed courtyard, landscaped with trees, flowers, and generous seating—creating a serene setting for events and social connection.
Dineen Construction managed this $12 million non-profit project in close partnership with the Ukrainian Catholic Church and Dunlop Farrow Architects. With a restricted budget heavily reliant on fundraising, value engineering and phased construction were critical. Through strong collaboration, the project was delivered on time and on budget, providing the community with a vital and enduring space for care.
