Hospital for Sick Children Pedestrian Tunnel Rehabilitation

Value  $3,580,000

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Completion Date: November 2020

The Pedestrian Tunnel Rehabilitation project revitalized the tunnel link, located below Gerrard St. and University Avenue; where it connects The Hospital for Sick Children with Toronto General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. The tunnel underwent maintenance work focused on cleaning existing structural & water damage, and preventing future water penetration into the space. New mechanical and electrical systems provide better comfort and illumination through the entire length of the tunnel. Work included hazardous substance abatement, structural remediation, new mechanical equipment, new lighting, new sprinklers, new epoxy flooring and painting.

The team coordinated the work with the three hospitals as shutting down the tunnel affected the hospitals operations. Dineen communicated with the hospitals throughout the protect, giving advance notices and isolating work to smaller areas, to ensure minimum disruption.
