Dineen Construction Corporation completed an MRI & Tower addition to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC), creating a better and faster healthcare experience for the community. The 5-storey building houses two complete MRI suites/rooms and a mechanical penthouse at roof level within the existing healthcare facilities. The space was designed to hold PRHC’s newest addition, a second MRI machine, allowing for up to 5000 additional MRI procedures each year and decreasing wait times.
The Dineen project team developed a strategy to place the MRI without compromising hospital operations. By creating two openings, the team used a crane to drop the machine into the 3rd level of the hospital – saving time and preventing a two-week shutdown of a portion of the hospital as originally scheduled. The team communicated with the OR, ER and Mental Health departments throughout the entire project to ensure the hospital remained fully operational and minimum disruption occurred to patients undergoing treatment.
